Fire tested for steel equivalency........

As part of a DNV approval process for one of our decks, we conducted a full blown fire test on a sample helideck to established the equivalency between an aluminum and steel deck. A 5m x 5m helideck comprised of the Heliflex 6000CL decking planks supported by the Heliflex I12 aluminum girders, was fire tested at our facilities in South Carolina under the guidance of a DNV surveyor. The test procedure was defined and requirements set by DNV Oslo. A 12,000# concrete block supported by  a four legged support frame was fitted above the deck at a location required by DNV. The concrete weight simulated the weight of a typical helideck. The deck was filled with 400 gallons of Kerosene and was lighted. The test consisted of monitoring any damage, structural failure or any other signs of distress to the helideck after a 10 minute burn test. No damage was observed after the test and DNV certified the equivalency of aluminum deck to a steel one.

Friction Coefficient, Safety net Drop Test, Tie-downs Pull test - DNV certified....

Tests to confirm compliance with CAP 437 requirements for the deck friction, safety net drop test and tie-downs pull test have been performed at our facilities in South Carolina and have been witnessed and certified by third party inspectors and DNV.

  • Friction coefficient: The test revealed a coefficient of friction above 1.0 in both directions of the deck top surface.
  • Safety net Test: An actual safety net panel supported by two aluminum outriggers was tested as per CAP 437 test requirements and the safety net components sustained the test loads without any damage or failure.
  • Tie-downs Pull test: Our standard D-ring tie down assembly was test in the presence of a DNV surveyor who confirmed the pull value of 6000#. The test was stopped at the 6000# mark without any signs of failure of the D-ring or its attachment to the deck.
