Helideck Fire Suppression
Systems
Our helideck systems are fitted with AFFF
fire suppression systems. The systems include self contained foam
stations consisting of combined hose reels and monitors as per CAP 437
requirements. Steel bladder tanks meeting specific requirements are also
provided depending on the client's requirements. Detailed engineering
and construction drawings are provided. Equipment is procured from
reliable suppliers.
Helidex now supplies
helideck DIFFS fire suppression systems consisting of either bronze
nozzles fitted around the deck perimeter or pop-up S.S. nozzles
fitted within the deck itself. A
bladder tank skid is supplied to feed the system with the required foam
solution. This system is equipment with an automatic activation system
if requested, consisting of UV/IR sensors. The system is monitored by a
Siemens control panel.
Due to potential helicopter
operational problems associated with the loss of downwash pressure,
Helidex does not provide perforated helidecks. We have, however,
developed a new extrusion which eliminates this problem. A continuous "T"slot
is built-in in the top flange to allow for drainage inside a built-in
channel filled with an aluminum flame arrestor mesh.
We also provide complementary media as
per CAP 437 requirements and ABS water hose reels. . we have supplied equipments to meet the
requirements of DNV, ABS and LR.

Landing
Nets
Our helideck systems are supplied with CAP 437 compliant manila rope
landing nets with S.S. accessories. Landing nets are supplied in accordance
with the folloing:
-
20 mm diameter
manila rope with intersections weaved or knotted to prevent
distortion of the mesh.
-
Maximum mesh size
of 200 mm is maintained during the weaving of the landing mesh.
-
S.S. 316 aircraft
cable, tie-downs and accessories are provided to secured the net the
deck at every 1.5 m along the perimeter of the deck close to the
gutter.
-
Landing net is
tightened during installation to at least 2225N or so that any part
of the net cannot be lifted by hand by more than 250mm above the
deck.
Landing net are
usually not supplied for fixed offshore platforms or rooftop structures.
The following sizes are supplied depending on the CAP 437 classification
of the helideck. Deck sizes are defined in
CAP 437
Table1: D Value and Helicopter Type Criteria.
-
Small landing net:
9m x 9m square of octagonal depending on the shape of the helideck.
-
Medium landing
net: 12m x 12m
-
Large landing net:
15m x15m
Despite the CAP437
requirement for a landing net on some offshore helidecks, Helidex
strongly advises against the use of landing nets on helidecks due to
their inherent tripping hazard and the well documented accidents related
to the tangling of helicopter wheels and skids to the net during take
offs.
